Oberursel, Germany
Oberursel is a lively town with many festivals, traditions, pubs and restaurants.
The old parts of the town date back 500 years and remarkable restoration work has been done to return middle-age buildings to their original designs, which gives the old town centre a charming medieval character.
Rushmoor and Oberursel were twinned in 1989 and since then many clubs and societies in both towns have linked up to form a rich tapestry of twinning friendships and partnerships in sport, music and other interests.
Annual fairs and festivals as well as regular tournaments and events take place involving golf clubs, choirs, bands, youth football teams, badminton clubs, dancers and colleges from both towns.
The two towns have similar small and medium-sized businesses in the service and high-tech industries with Rolls-Royce being a big employer in the area.
Oberursel is a twenty-minute drive away from the city Frankfurt and many Oberursel residents commute to Frankfurt for work. The Taunus mountains are just a few miles away and provide a very popular spot for rambling, hiking and skiing in the winter.
